Hayman Studio remains committed to providing the best images for the commercial, corporate and advertising community in York, Pennsylvania and beyond. We accomplish this by being a pace setter in the field, utilizing some of the latest camera equipment and techniques to provide an affordable product of the highest quality in a relaxed, professional environment.

The history of Hayman Studio...

1950: Humble Beginnings
James M. Hayman, Jr. founded this photography business and headquartered the studio in his parents' home on Creston Road. He kept the studio there when he married Nancy Gunnett in 1956 and set up house in an apartment on Market St.

1957: Kershaw Street Studio
Business operations were relocated when James moved to Kershaw Street in East York and converted part of the house into a studio and a film and print processing lab.

1965: 4th Avenue Studio
As the business continued to expand, and more personnel were added, a new facility was needed. James found a 3200 square foot building that had been a machine shop. It had the electrical and water supply necessary for a photography business, as well as solid flooring for the studio cameras. And so the building at 100 4th Ave. in North York was purchased, and all operations were moved.

1976 -1978: A Family Business
James Hayman III began working for his father, and the following year the business was incorporated. Current treasurer, and son-in-law, Timothy Shreiner came on board in 1978 as the company maintained its family business atmosphere.

1983 - 1984: Expansion
A 1600 square foot lab was added to accommodate old and new automated film and print processing equipment as the business expanded. The addition opened up more of the original structure for studio space. During that time, James Hayman III became the new president of Hayman Studio.

1996-1998: Digital Technology
As more and more emphasis was being placed on digital technology, a photographic digital services department was added . Jay Evans, a company employee since 1972, became the head of what is now the full service digital lab. With new capabilities of digital photography and advancements in imaging software, Hayman Studio slowly began to make the switch to a filmless process.

2001-Present:
Hayman Studio purchased it's first digital back (a 16 mega pixel Kodak) for its analog Hasselblad camera system in 2001, and continued to evolve, making the full switch to digital technology. Now, the studio uses some of the finest digital cameras available on the market. Ryan Hayman, grandson of James M Hayman, Jr. joined Hayman Studio as a digital lab technician. Today he is a photographer and also does post production work in the digital lab.
